NAPA COUNTY AGRICULTURAL PRESERVE

The Jack L. Davies Napa Valley Agricultural Land Preservation Fund is pleased to announce the opening of its scholarship application period for high school seniors throughout Napa County. Students preparing to pursue college study of agriculture, public policy, environmental studies or other related fields are encouraged to apply and become eligible for one of multiple scholarships, which will help cover the expenses of their first year of college or university.

Applications are available for download at the following link: Scholarship Application

Applicants may also contact their high school college counselors and ag teachers in Napa County. Applicants competing for these scholarships should be prepared to complete an essay and oral interview demonstrating their knowledge of the Ag Preserve and its importance to Napa County.

“This year is extra special as we are celebrating the JLD Ag Fund’s 50th anniversary,” says Hugh Davies, JLD Ag Fund board member and President of Schramsberg Vineyards. “For fifty years, the JLD Ag Fund has been dedicated to preserving, protecting, and promoting ag lands in Napa County. It has provided the backdrop for the growth of our world class wine industry that is the economic foundation for this county. These scholarships are our way of recognizing high school students in Napa County who are choosing to pursue agriculture-related fields of study.”

Farmland preservation is key to the long-term sustainability of Napa County, and has been since the formation of the Agricultural Preserve by the County Board of Supervisors in 1968. The Ag Preserve ensures that Napa County upholds the vision that agriculture is the community’s most precious resource – the highest and best use of the land.
